The OrdinaryLeaders Podcast

Ordinary Leaders is a podcast that celebrates individuals who make extraordinary impacts and set leadership examples for all of us. I’m your host, Tyneeta Canonge. I’m the founder of WE Consulting, an equity leadership consulting and coaching firm. My job is to help people tap into their leadership potential, especially those who don’t fit into traditional molds. Together, we’ll uncover the stories of historical figures, modern-day trailblazers, and unsung heroes. Some names you’ll recognize, and others will be completely new to you—but I promise their stories will inspire you as they have inspired me. We’ll explore how people use their God given gifts and courage to step into leadership roles they don’t always ask for but rise to meet with courage and grace. My hope is that you’ll recognize that all of us have the capacity to lead within our circle of influence.

In this deeply personal episode, I sit down with my parents to explore their experiences growing up in New Orleans. Through stories of struggle, resistance, and triumph, they share what it was like to navigate the complexities of identity in the South, the lessons they learned, and the wisdom they now share with others. From the civil rights movement’s impact on their childhoods to the leadership they grew into as adults, this episode is a testament to the power of perseverance and purpose. Their voices are a bridge between history and the present. We dive into the realities of the colorism and racism they faced, the resilience they built, and how these experiences shaped their leadership journeys.

In this episode, I celebrate one of the greatest acts of collective liberation—the Underground Railroad—a movement powered by courage, strategy, and a deep belief in freedom.
We take a special stop at The Milton House in Wisconsin, a beacon of hope where abolitionists and freedom seekers worked together in defiance of oppression. Through their stories, we explore the unity that made this network possible, despite the dangers and opposition.
Just like our ancestors lifted one another up, we continue that legacy today in our fight for justice.
